Skype surprised us today, announcing five-way video conferencing to be rolled out next week. Until now, the popular communications app was just a one-on-one affair when you're talking video, but that's about to change when the company offers a beta version of its software during the week of May 10th.
Now for the bad news: this new trick will be free for a while, but later in the year Skype says it'll start charging for it. Let's hope the price is low, because this could be an extremely useful feature, perhaps even eliminating the need for some horribly uncomfortable airline-related experiences.
Questions remain. What about HD calling? And when on earth will there be enough bandwidth for all this?
