Stephen Colbert Shows Off iPad at Grammys

Apple product wasn't the only Bay Area winner

Stephen Colbert has been openly, and repeatedly, begging for a new Apple iPad on The Colbert Report following the announcement of the device last week.

Seems the ploy worked, because during his appearance has host of The Grammys last night, he had one stashed away in his tux.

Introducing the nominees for Song of the Year (the award went to Beyoncé Knowles for "Single Ladies"), he couldn't find the list. But then he pulled an iPad from his jacket to laughter and applause from the audience.

"Jay-Z, did you not get one of these in your gift bag? Does this make me cooler than you?"

His daughter shook her head -- decidedly not.

Apple's new device wasn't the only point of local pride at the show -- a recording of Mahler's 8th by the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas and featuring the San Francisco Girls Chorus and Pacific Boychoir won three awards, including Best Classical album.

And, yes, you can download the album from the iTunes store now, or when you buy your iPad in March.

Jackson West doubts Colbert will get to take the iPad home with him, but will probably get at least a chance to plug it again tonight on his show.
