Halloween can be stressful -- organizing a spooky yard to lure in trick-or-treaters; keeping your own kids safe; and dealing with their sugar-fueled energy can lead to one giant headache. We've pulled together five apps that should help make your night easier.
Best app for trick-or-treating: Trick or Treating. Do you really need an app for this? Maybe not, but it sure can make things easier if you want to make a lot of far-flung stops to see friends and their families. You enter the addresses, and the app ties in to Google Maps to provide directions to each location. Older kids can use it on their own. This app is compatible with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
Best app to scare neighborhood kids: Halloween by Eugene Yu. This app offers spooky music, sound effects, recipes and scary stories. Expect to find your favorite scary movie sound bites including Danny creepily repeating "Red Rum" in "The Shining" and "They're he-e-re" from "Poltergeist." You can also pick your favorite track (I prefer 'Scary Music #2,' which clocks in at 14:29), set it to repeat and have an instant soundtrack for the night. This app is compatible with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
Best app for a spooky car ride: Halloween by Reuben Bijl. If you're willing to cough up $0.99 for a novelty app this is definitely the way to go. Any kid who can handle an iPhone can easily click any of the 13 buttons to create an eery sound. Hand this app to your kids in the backseat and let them transform a drive through town into a haunted trip. This app is compatible with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
Best app to create your own Halloween cards: Halloween by Big Blue Clip, LLC. Choose from five spooky backgrounds or upload your own photo to create your own Halloween cards. The app provides ghost, monster, bat and cat stickers to decorate your card and you can use gothic font to write out your own message. Once you're create a card of your liking, email it to your family and friends, or share it to Facebook. This app is compatible with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
Best app to keep your kids entertained: ClickySticky Halloween Sticker Book. Halloween themed background and virtual stickers will light up your kids' imaginations and fill their heads with cackling witches and fluttering bats. The backgrounds ranging from haunted houses to candy buckets kept my 20-something brain occupied for close to 30 minutes - consider that 30 minutes of quiet after a night fueled with candy. This app is compatible with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
