Baseball Team's Famous “Ball-Dog” Retiring

The Greensboro Grasshoppers minor league baseball team in North Carolina is losing a valuable player at the end of the season.

Miss Babe Ruth, a black lab, gets to play fetch for a living. She’s been the team’s ball-dog for the better part of a decade, and she happens to be better known than most of the players.

This season will be her last on the diamond. The team says she deserves some down time, and the fans say they’re going to miss her.

But two of Miss Babe Ruth’s canine companions, also named after baseball legends, will continue the tradition: her brother, Master Yogi Berra, and her niece, Lou-Lou Gherig.

Since dogs outnumber children in San Francisco, maybe it's time the Giants added a few furry friends to their Balldude roster.
