Rodents chewing through cables caused about 2,400 homes in the Hollywood Hills to lose electrical power today, the Department of Water and Power said.

Downed power lines were reported by the fire department at 5:58 a.m. on Scenic Avenue off Beachwood Drive, in the Hollywood Hills above Sunset Plaza, said DWP spokeswoman Gale Harris.

Power was restored to most customers by 7:22 a.m. and to all customers by 8:56 a.m., Harris said.

Squirrels or some kind of rodents gnawed through the power lines, causing the outage, said Harris.
