A horse that escaped from its pasture in Richmond was struck and  killed by an ambulance this morning, a police dispatcher said.

The collision occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on the Richmond Parkway  at Giant Road, according to the dispatcher.

The horse died, but no other injuries were reported, she said.

Police believe the horse had escaped on its own from a nearby  pasture.
