Nudists Gather To Break Skinny-Dipping Guinness World Record at South Florida Beach

805 nudists gathered at Haulover Beach Sunday

Hundreds of nudists gathered at Haulover Beach Sunday in hopes of setting the new Guinness world record for most skinny-dippers in the same place.

The event registered 805 people to get in the water but thousands attended the beach as spectators, said Richard Mason, president of the South Florida Free Beaches Association, which organized the event.

“It was a successful event,” Mason said. “If Guinness accepts that, we will set the new world record.”

The current Guinness world record of most skinny-dippers in the same place was set in El Playazo Beach in Vera Playa, Almeria, Spain. A total of 729 nudists gathered there in July.

Mason said Sunday’s weather was “choppy and windy,” causing many beachgoers to stay home.

But despite the weather, Mason said they were able to set up canopies at the beach and follow the strict rules set by Guinness.

To organize the swimmers, participants were given bracelets and organizers did their best to keep people in the same area, a Guinness world record requirement.

The event also raised money for the Paralyzed Veterans Association of Florida. According to Mason, they will be donating about $1,100 to the organization.
