San Francisco Newcomer Dodges Escalating Rents by Moving Into Sailboat

Sarah Carter has figured out how to thwart astronomical San Francisco real estate prices by purchasing a sailboat as a home.

The 23-year-old SF newcomer told <a href="http://

" target="_blank">Business Insider she has purchased a 136-square foot sailboat for $9,600, which equals about five months' rent on apartments she was considering. Docking at a marina and a parking space cost her about $350 per month.

Other floating options on the SF market right now include a 40-foot houseboat for $60,000 and a 28-footer built in 1968 for $3000.

The neighbors place is pretty
