Valuable Axe Stolen From San Francisco Tiki Bar

Smuggler's Cove victimized by bar pirates -- again.

The axe is gone.

Tiki bar Smuggler's Cove is short one "tiki axe," after a patron apparently ripped the hand-carved, custom-made artifact from the bar's wall, according to reports.

EaterSF brings us the news of the bar's loss: a wooden implement, resembling a paddle or a club, that served as decoration and ambience for the Franklin Street tiki bar and rum emporium.

Whoever stole the axe is not weak: They tore it straight from the bar's wall, taking along some "woven matting" and pieces of sheetrock along with it. How they managed to do so undetected is not known.

Bar staff are asking tiki fans and rum-swillers alike to keep an eye out on eBay and other secondary markets for sign of the one-of-a-kind axe.

This is not the first time the upscale tiki lounge has been victimized: In 2012, someone lifted a valuable mug known as "Tiki Bob" from its place of honor at the bar, Eater reported.

Tiki Bob has not been seen again.
