Half Moon Bay's city council will vote Tuesday to slash its city staff in half. The council is expected to vote to pass a plan to outsource its police and recreation services, saving more than $500,000 a year according to the San Jose Mercury News.
The cuts would pare down city staff from the current 38 to just 19.
Under the plan, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office would take over policing in the city and the San Carlos would take over the recreation department. The deal with the sheriff's office is already in place and will take effect at midnight Saturday.
The sheriff's office will absorb the officers and administration in the current Half Moon Bay police department.
This will be the second time the city has halved its staff. In 2009, the city slashed jobs to deal with the downturn in the economy and a costly legal settlement.
