Bay Area Hospitals Considered Some of the Best in U.S.

The Bay Area is home to some of the best hospitals in the nation according to a new report from U.S. News & World Report.

University of California, San Francisco is ranked as the Bay Area's best hospital. Nationally, it ranks top ten in nine categories. It is top five in the fields of diabetes & endocrinology, neurology & neurosurgery and urology. UCSF is also the 8th best hospital in the country in treating cancer.

In the south bay, Stanford Hospital and Clinics ranks in the top 20 in seven categories including cancer treatment, orthopedics, psychiatry and ear, nose and throat.

Other local hospitals making the list include California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto. It ranks 5th in Pediatrics when it comes to heart & heart surgery and kidney disorders.

U.S. News factored in both routine procedures and complex surgeries to come up with the rankings. It ranked hospitals in 16 specialties.
