Taking place over two days, May 5 and 6, from 10 am – 4 pm the Festival draws thousands from the northern California region and beyond. New this year, attendees will have an opportunity to meet Chef Tom Muromoto, one of Maui’s top chefs, for lively and informative cooking demonstrations and samples. Since a festival is never complete without Hawaiian entertainment, Maui brings Hālau Otea Api to present traditional and modern music and dance. Finally, always wanting to welcome visitors to its Island home, Maui offers a chance for attendees to win a trip for two to the First Annual Kāʻanapali Fresh, a culinary event August 31 – September 3, 2012 in Kāʻanapali Beach Resort on the west side of Maui, Hawai’i. Chef demonstrations and Hawaiian performances are scheduled four times a day.
Executive Chef Tom Muromoto, is the unrelenting force behind the award-winning Tiki Terrace Restaurant at Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel. Chef Muromoto was born and raised in Hawai’i, and has remained closely connected to his roots: Inspired by the abundance of the ocean that allowed him once to be a surfer, a spear fisher, and a lobster diver, influenced by the ethnic diversity of the islands and the traditions of Hawaiian culture, he developed boundless culinary curiosity. His cooking offers a unique interpretation of Hawaii Regional Cuisine. “The flavors and how flavors can change throughout different cultures fascinates me,” Chef Muromoto says. “Our local agriculture brings to these flavors the freshest produce possible. Nothing can be fresher than what is grown locally and available to us. Bringing out the flavors of freshness is an exciting journey.”
