Local University Guarantees Admission to Bay Area Students

SFSU says it will always have room for San Francisco grads.

Deep budget cuts are not going to stop one local university from guaranteeing admission to Bay Area students.

San Francisco State University says when students in this year's 8th grade classes graduate high school, they will get admission priority to the college according to the San Francisco Examiner. It is part of SFSU's SF Promise program.

Through the program, qualified students in college's local enrollment area, right now that's San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin counties, will get admission priority. They must take certain high school courses and score a certain level on the SAT test to qualify.

SFSU says even if budget cuts reduce the size of the university's local enrollment area, it will always give San Francisco students priority.

The first San Francisco graduating class guaranteed admission will be the class of 2015.
