People in Capitola aren't happy with PG&E this morning. They say the utility has tricked them into using SmartMeters even though the city council voted in February to ban them.
After last week's floods, PG&E installed 17 of the new meters at damaged homes and businesses. The utility says it had no choice, once an old meter is damaged, it has to be replaced with the new meter.
Residents who are already skeptical of the meters are now calling for an investigation into PG&E.
"I think that PG&E kind of gets what they wants," said Jim Furlong, a Capitola businessman. "They're the big kahuna in town and I don't like that. And I feel as though we should take a look at it strongly. I really do."
