San Jose, CA - - Evergreen Valley High School, part of the East Side Union High School District, celebrates Anton Cao for earning perfect scores on his Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus BC Exam in May 2016.
Cao was 1 of only 11 students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP Calculus BC Exam. Looking across approximately 4.7 million AP Exams taken by 2.6 million U.S. public high school students in 2016, close to 400 students earned every point possible on an AP exam, a rare accomplishment.
This was the second time he earned a perfect score on an AP exam! His first perfect score came last year when he was an 11th grader and earned a perfect score on the AP Calculus AB Exam in Spring 2015.
"Anton not only possesses an exceptional aptitude and love for math, but he also demonstrates impressive diligence and persistence, which places him into a rare species of students," said Garry Redillas, Cao's AP Calculus BC math teacher. "His congenial character exhibited through his cheerfulness, friendliness, and good sense of humor has constantly earned him high respect and admiration from his peers. On top of these qualities are humility and an enthusiasm to share his passion for math with others."
AP Exams are based and reported on a 5-point scale, where a 5 is equivalent to a grade of A in the corresponding college course. Cao received the top score of 5.
The College Board is committed to ensuring that students have access to the opportunities they have earned. Students who succeed in AP are not only more likely to succeed in college, but have the chance to save a significant amount of time and money by earning college credit or placement.
Nearly all colleges and universities offer credit, advanced placement, and/or consideration in the admission process for qualifying AP Exam scores.
