Warriors Survive “Battle of the Worst”

What happens when the two worst defensive teams in the NBA meet? A lot of fireworks and of course, a lot of offense . Warriors guard Monta Ellis scored a career high 42 points while Kings star Kevin Martin dropped 50 (also a career high) on Golden State.  The Warriors outlasted Sacramento 143-141 in overtime at the Oracle Arena on Wednesday.

Despite the victory, not all of the Warriors were smiling.  Corey Maggette's return to the lineup (after a four game absence from a head injury) was short lived. The veteran swingman left the game in the second quarter with post-concussion syndrome. Golden State finished the game with just eight healthy players.

The Kings tied the game with 2.9 seconds remaining in regulation on a Beno Udrih uncontested layup. In overtime Ellis hit a pull-up jumper plus the foul to tie the game with 42 seconds remaining and Ronny Turiaf would net the game winner on a free throw with 12.2 seconds on the clock.

The Warriors improve to 26-49 on the season and host Chris Paul and the Hornets on Friday.
