The Bay Area wakes up weekday mornings with co-anchor Brent Cannon.
Brent graduated with a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Colorado. He studied Astro-Geophysics before making the transition to the School of Journalism. While in college, Brent played varsity football for the Buffaloes as a walk-on punter during the first years of head coach Bill McCartney.
Brent began his broadcasting career as a sports intern in Denver, then worked as a sportscaster for 11 years in various markets. During that time he earned numerous Associated Press Awards including Best Sportscast in the Southeast Region 1993. After that, he made the transition to news, becoming a 5 p.m. anchor in Fresno, where he received an Emmy award for his field reporting. That's also where me met and married his wife and current co-anchor Laura Garcia. She and Brent eventually moved to Phoenix, Ariz. where Brent became a morning news anchor, and Laura became an investigative reporter.
Brent was born and raised in Denver, Colo., and likes football (especially college) and enjoys playing golf, fly-fishing, snowshoeing and skiing.
Brent and Laura were honored for the third consecutive year with an Emmy award for "Best Daytime Newscast". Brent also won an Emmy for a special assignment report. The married couple has been anchoring side-by-side in the Bay Area since 2000 - and between them have won eight Emmy awards. They were also named Best Daytime Newscast by the Bay Area Women in Radio and Television for two consecutive years - and won a "Pubby" award, as Best Anchor team by Bay Area Public Relations firms.
