Laura Garcia-Cannon co-anchors weekday mornings with her husband, Brent Cannon.
This multiple Emmy Award winning journalist began her career in broadcasting in San Francisco before moving on to report and anchor in Fresno. Prior to joining NBC Bay Area, Laura was an investigative reporter and anchor in Phoenix, Arizona. While there, Laura was honored with The Associated Press Reporter of the Year Award along with multiple Emmy and AP awards for writing and reporting. One of her fondest achievements was accepting an Emmy award in San Francisco for best daytime broadcast along with her husband and co-anchor Brent Cannon, "It's great to be able to work side by side, we're a true team both on and off the air," she says. Brent and Laura were also recognized with a Best Daytime Newscast Award in the Bay Area by the Bay Area Women in Radio and Television.
Laura is an avid participant in various organizations. She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and serves on the Board of Regents of Her Alma Mater, Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Government. Laura also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society as well as the Board of the Catholic Professional Business Club.
When she's not on the anchor desk, depending on the season, Laura enjoys golf, skiing, snowshoeing, reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends. You can also find her enjoying the Bay Area weather everyday taking her Yorkie, Chip out for a walk.
