Traci Grant has been a general assignment reporter for NBC11 News since June 2002 and can be seen on 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
When she was 6 years old, Traci sat with her family watching the news, pointed to the television and said "That's what I want to be when I grow up." During her childhood in Miami, Florida, she was always the editor of the school paper, the person who read the morning announcements and worked during the summers at the local public television station.
Traci's career has taken that same path, zig-zagging from print journalism to broadcast. She graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Chicago and worked for The Boston Globe. But then she returned to her true passion: television. Traci has worked at television stations in Boston, Augusta, Georgia, Hartford,Connecticut and Orlando, Florida.
Traci is a past recipient of a Benjamin Fine award for education reporting as well two Emmy nominations for Hard News Features. She considers herself incredibly fortunate because her job allows her to see things that many do not have the chance to see and meet the people who many do not have the opportunity to meet.
During her time away from reporting, Traci enjoys TiVo, live theater and volunteering for San Francisco's Lighthouse for the Blind. Her favorite books are "White Teeth" by Zadie Smith and "Bridget Jones's Diary." She adores the movie Shawshank Redemption, When Harry Met Sally and has watched each Star Wars film at least a thousand times. Traci also loves anything with Hugh Grant in it, no matter how sappy.
Traci has been a member of the National Association of Black Journalists for over a decade.
