The 2009 Senior Games Local Organizing Committee, is a non-profit and is responsible for the production of the 2009 Summer National Senior Games.

Held every two years, the Summer National Senior Games is the largest multi-sport event in the world for men and women athletes 50 and older and is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles in seniors through education fitness and sport. The Games are projected to deliver a much needed $35 million economic impact to the region.

More than 10,000 athletes, age 50 and over from across the country, will compete in 25 sports.  These men and women are inspirational role models for all of us, as they embody the spirit of lifelong wellness captured in the slogan of the 2009 Senior Games - "Long Live the Challenge".

Most of the competition will take place on the beautiful campus of Stanford University including badminton, basketball, golf, racquetball, road race, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field and volleyball.   Beyond the campus, softball and racquetball will be held in Sunnyvale, bowling and horseshoes in San Jose, cycling in San Mateo County, golf and lawn bowling in Palo Alto, the triathlon and rowing in Redwood City, golf in San Francisco, sailing on San Francisco Bay and fencing on Treasure Island.  In all, there will be 800 events contested over 16 days.
