I don't know what I would do if my 4 children weren't currently covered by Healthy Families. I have 2 children with severe asthma and their doctor visits as well as medicines would break me if I had no help. I would have no choice but to NOT have medical insurance for them, my current employer rates are close to 500 dollars PER paycheck (twice a month for me). The point is to give those that do work but make just a bit too much for medical, but not enough to raise a family & pay medical bills a chance, some help. The whole point is to keep people OFF of welfare, working and able to take care of their family. Taking away Healthy Families is horrible & I hope to God they find the funds. Otherwise there are going to be alot of children with NO health care. Healthy Families is a cost effective program and is particularly important during the economic downturn. The State of California is turning away millions of Federal dollars to save a relatively minor amount of state funds, and letting California's children down by refusing to pay for preventive care. The costs of this foolish act will come later, in overcrowded emergency rooms and in the lives of children who will suffer later because they didn't get basic preventive care as children.
