Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pie May Still Be Available at Oakland, San Leandro Wal-Mart Stores

A viral video frenzy caused Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pie to fly off of Walmart shelves in the U.S., including in the Bay Area, but the retailer reports the dessert is still available in at least two East Bay stores.

In a video posted to YouTube on November 12, James Wright Chanel sang in LaBelle's signature tones as he offered a customer review of the pie, which he loved.

Chanel's video racked millions of views across sources, prompted nationwide sellouts and earned a personal phone call from LaBelle.

"We've located a few thousand more in our distribution centers and this week we're processing them and routing them to stores where there's the greatest need for them," John Forrest Ales, ‎Director of Corporate Communications at Walmart, told TODAY, which also published LaBelle's actual home recipe on Thursday.

Ales added that he wasn't sure if that would mean that they'd be available in time for Thanksgiving.

But there may be good news for curious locals. According to walmart.com, LaBelle's dessert sensation, which retails for $3.98 and is made with "California grown sweet potatoes," has sold out at the Richmond Walmart location but is still available in San Leandro and Oakland.

They're also available to bid on or buy via eBay, where amateur auctioneers are asking as much as $12,000 to buy two now.
