PETA Demands Horse-Drawn Carriage Ban
Fisherman's Wharf mayhem has animal rights activists bending mayor's ear

Runaway horses have PETA neighing at City Hall.
An incident with a runaway horse on Monday has People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asking city authorities to ban horse and buggy operations from San Francisco.
The rides are a popular tourist attraction, but burdening beasts is a no-no in PETA's playbook.
The organization pointed to similar incidents across the country in calling for the ban.
Mayor Gavin Newsom and the Board of Supervisors have been amenable to the activists' concerns in the pass, with the mayor pull foie gras from the menu at his restaurants and Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi proposing to commend restaurants that do likewise.
"The Amish population of San Francisco will be outraged," mayoral spokesman Nathan Ballard told the San Francisco Examiner, making light of the incident and PETA's demands.
