The next time you're at the coast, be sure to be on the lookout for whales.

If you look hard enough, you just might see one. The month of December is prime whale-watching time.

The gray whales often pass very close to the Bay Area's coastline as they migrate from Alaska down to Baja, California for the winter.

The ocean giants can travel up to 70 to 80 miles a day at a rate of three to five miles per hour.
