Nissan Leaf Coming to San Francisco

Good news for Bay Area greenies

Good news for Bay Area greenies (which is probably everyone): Nissan is bringing the Leaf, its first all-electric zero-emission vehicle, to the area late next year. Mayor Gavin Newsom made the announcement yesterday on behalf of the Bay Area Electric Vehicle Corridor program.

"This collaboration stems from Nissan's recognition of the aggressive work we are doing to make the San Francisco Bay Area the nation's EV capital," said Mayor Newsom.

Between now and the release, Nissan will work with San Francisco and the surrounding region to develop an EV-charging infrastructure. That will include development of a streamlined process for the installation of charging equipment in people's homes. The Leaf will serve as a pilot vehicle for the process.
