Two people enjoy Oakland's First Friday Art Walk.

Oakland's First Fridays Art Walk is a great way to get some fresh air while taking in the best of Oakland's visual art scene. More than twenty local galleries will have their doors open Friday night. And getting there is easy, with two BART stations nearby. Heads up, though: sentencing in the Mehserle case is scheduled for Friday, but no major riots are expected downtown.

Slims is having a CD release party for La Plebe. The local group plays high-energy, Spanish punk rock with horns. It's $15 and starts at 8:30 p.m. Members of the band have puked on stage before, so take a spot in the back unless you're into that sort of thing.
