12/1: Free Zoo & A Tree Lighting

The first Wednesday of every month is Free Admission Day at the San Francisco Zoo. So what are you waiting on? These tix are usually $15.

It should be 63 degrees in the city today, so the monkeys will be extra playful, the lions will still not look at you and the polar bears will loll with special aplomb.

Here's a map. Feeding the animals is on you.

Next up, our own Tom Sinkovitz will trip the tree fantastic tonight at the Ritz-Carlton, from 5:30-7:30.

Santa and helpers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation will be there, too. For refreshments and entertainment we're talking Dickens-era costumed carolers, pressed apple cider, roasted chestnuts and holiday confections.

According to the hotel's site: "Featured this evening in The Lobby will also be Chef Ron Siegel of The Dining Room’s Crab Cake Sandwiches, Clam Chowder Bowls and a children’s grilled cheese sandwich, chips and cookies with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation."
