America's Cup Test Run Sets Sail

San Francisco will get a taste of the America's Cup sailing race come Monday afternoon with the debut sail of the home team competitor.

Because Oracle CEO Larry Ellison won the last America's Cup, he had a hand in choosing the next stop. Ellison "went local" and picked the San Francisco Bay for the 2013 race.

Monday a wing-sailed catamaran, which will be featured in the 2013 race, is scheduled to be the first of the racing boats to test the waters.

Race organizers said the AC45 wing-sailed catamaran will sail under the Golden Gate Bridge around 1 p.m.

On most days, there are dozens of boats on the Bay, but you should be able to spot this one because it will be chased by a power boat filled with reporters taking photos. There should also be television helicopters overhead.

The 45-foot boats are double-hulled unlike a typical sailboat. The one on the bay Monday is owned by Oracle Racing.  Get to know this one if you want to know what to cheer for when screaming for the home team come 2013.
