Bay Area Math Geeks Celebrate Pi Day

San Francisco's Exploratorium and math enthusiasts around the world were celebrating all things Pi Wednesday.

Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, begins with 3.14 -- hence the annual celebration on March 14 -- and continues infinitely without repeating.

The Exploratorium's celebration includes Pi limericks, Pi chanting, a Pi processional and, of course, pie.
      
Pi Day founder and retired Exploratorium physicist Larry Shaw will help host the event, and Shaw, along with other museum officials, will discuss the history of Pi and how it is calculated.

The Pi festivities begin at 1 p.m. at the museum, located at the Palace of Fine Arts at 3601 Lyon St.
