Expect Rain for SF’s Sunday Streets

This Sunday, San Francisco is saying goodbye to cars and hello to pedestrians, bicyclists and unfortunately, rain clouds.

Sunday Streets is kicking off its fourth year in the city by shutting down traffic on the Embarcadero. Pedestrians, cyclists, joggers, skaters, pogostickers and others will have their car-free reign between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Thousands turn out each week to experience San Francisco without automobiles, although this weekend's rain could dampen attendance. Sunday will be cloudy with a 70 percent chance of rain.

The event is free to all participants, and includes a "free group events such as tai chi, yoga, aerobics and other activities," according to organizers.

Sunday Streets 2011 Season:

• March 20: Embarcadero from Fisherman’s Wharf to Mission Bay
• April 10: Great Highway and Golden Gate Park
• May 8: Mission, including the popular route along 24th and Valencia Streets
• June 12: Bayview, on 3rd Street from Mission Bay, Dogpatch to Bayview Opera House
• July 10: Great Highway and Golden Gate Park No. 2
• August 14: Civic Center and the Tenderloin
• September 11: Western Addition, North Panhandle, Alamo Square and Fillmore
• October 23: Mission No. 2

 Sunday Streets is expanding this summer to Chinatown and North Beach. Those dates and exact locations are still being worked out at City Hall.
