Was he high or wasn't he? You can get a first hand look at Bay Area actor gone Oscar host James Franco Monday.

The Bay Area product will return to Palo Alto where he grew up Monday to watch a play based on his mother's "young adult" novel Metamorphosis, Junior Year.

The story of difficulties teenagers deal with while growing up was written by the actor's mother and the audio book was recorded by Franco and his brother.

The "Pineapple Express" star is also producing a documentary about the process of transforming the novel into a play.

The play will be shown at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre on various dates and times in March. For more information, visit the city of Palo Alto's website.
