Katya Grineva, World Famous Pianist, Plays Free Concert in Lobby of San Jose's Good Samaritan Hospital

Carnegie Hall regular hopes to heal through music

Visitors to San Jose's Good Samaritan Hospital will enjoy a free concert from a world-class artist this week. Katya Grineva, a Moscow-born pianist known for her romantic style, who has appeared at Carnegie Hall 14 times, will perform in the hospital lobby from 10-11a.m. on Feb. 10.

Grineva's connection to cancer is a deeply personal one: Her mother recently died of the disease. She has long been building extra time into her concert itinerary, which regularly takes her across the world, to play at schools and hospitals.

Good Samaritan Hospital's piano is a donation from a volunteer whose husband was treated for cancer there. Open to the community for signups, it's a beloved part of the acute care hospital, where music is valued for its powers to heal and uplift.

Grineva will also tickle the ivories at the Cancer CAREpoint benefit at the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga on February 11.
