A tongue-in-cheek event to crown the man most representative of San Francisco's Marina District is taking place tonight.
Organizers of "Mr. Marina 2013" will bestow that title on one of 10 finalists participating in the contest, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ruby Skye, located at 420 Mason St.
On the event's website, organizers said the ideal candidate is "social, fun-loving, generous, manly ... and it doesn't hurt if he enjoys wearing pastel colors from time to time."
A panel of judges will assess the contestants based on swimwear, talent and question-and-answer competitions.
The event is not totally silly -- each contestant raised money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and their fundraising totals will also be taken into account by the judges.
The winner will be given the prestigious honor of having his name engraved on the Mr. Marina plaque at Bar None on Union Street, and will also receive a bevy of gift certificates and other perks from Marina District restaurants and businesses.
Tickets for the event are still available for $35, which will also go to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. More information about the event is available online at www.mrmarina.eventbrite.com or on the event organizers' page at www.slapcancer.org/mrmarina.
