Red Tape Threatens San Francisco Tradition

There are a lot of only in San Francisco events that draw the ire of Fox News. But one city tradition that

even Bill O'Reilly would approve of (we think) is a vintage car gathering and picnic in Golden Gate Park.

Jimmy’s Old Car Picnic sounds wholesome enough but like many things in San Francisco there is

someone looking to ruin the fun. Our friends at Laughing Squid tell us the annual all around good time and benefit for children with developmental disabilities is in jeopardy of not happening this year.

The City's Recreation and Parks Department denied organizers' request to congregate in Golden Gate Park.

Organizers say the cash-strapped department is looking for ways to bring more revenue into the equally cash-strapped City. And the vintage picnic does not fit the bill. The City also said in its denial that it does not feel the grass lot is an appropriate place for cars.

But there is hope. The group has organized an online petition and is encouraging people to come voice their support at a Rec & Park Commission meeting on Feb. 18.
