Snowmaking efforts will allow Boreal Mountain Resort in the Sierra to open Friday, marking the earliest start in the mountain's history.
Managers bumped the date up to TGIF, saying they will be ready to have skiiers hit the slopes sooner than expected.
The resort, which will be the first in California to start for the season, will run the Castle Peak Quad lift from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tahoe got its first snowfall last Saturday. The early-season snowstorm dropped as much as six inches of snow on the upper elevation peaks such as Mt. Rose. Chain restrictions were in place for much of Saturday night and Sunday.
Lift tickets for ages 5 to 12 will be $15, while lift passes for ages 13 and up run $30.
It will feel like spring skiing at best, with temperatures forecast to be in the 60s this weekend.
The resort likes to pride itself at being the first to open each year.
Boreal first fired up its snow machines on the last day of September.

Loveland Ski Area, about 50 miles west of Denver, opened for the season Wednesday, making it the first ski area in North America to open its slopes as far as we can tell.
The pending season means winter job openings. Several resorts are holding job fairs in the coming weeks. Boreal is holding one on Nov. 7. Sugar Bowl has one planned for Oct. 24. Sugar Bowl officials told the Auburn Journal it already had 800 applications on file.
