CABLE STAR COMES HOME: Cable news television's newest star, Rachel Maddow, will speak at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, in Santa Clara from from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The East Bay native and MSNBC host will speak about "Innovation & Leadership: Breakthrough Strategies for Uncertain Times."

ROCK OUT, EH? Canadian Chad Vangaalen will play the Bottom of the Hill, 1233 17th St., in San Francisco at 9 p.m.

WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? The Berkeley YWCA will offer an Improv Acting Class at 6 p.m. at the Berkeley YWCA, 2600 Bancroft Way. There will be theater games and confidence building exercises. For more information visit the Berkeley Improv's Web site.
