Behold the new interior and layout at JBA-award-winning chef, Traci Des Jardins’, Public House and Mijita.
As of this week, the former Acme Chophouse officially reinvents itself as these two distinct restaurants, still run by Bon Appetit Management Company.
The images here reveal Wednesday’s pre-opening flurry, as staff readied for the evening industry soiree of 300 or so insiders. You’ll remember Acme Chophouse closed in December of last year due to a dip in revenues.
Designer Wendy Tsuji created a gastropub ambiance at Public House, most notably with an impressive “wall” made of 78-kegs, that separates the space into a front bar area and back dining room.
At adjoining Mijita, bright lemon paint and murals by Jesse Wilson create a festive SOB (that’s South of the Border) feel. Although the Grand Opening officially takes place on April 5; you can pop in now for Executive Chef Thom Fox’s ballpark fare, including a Philly-style cheesesteak; or ethically sourced, “not-quite-authentic” Mexican creations from Mijita, like jalapeno poppers and nachos.
As we mentioned in February, diners can bring food from either restaurant into the other. Curious to hear your early thoughts through the tipline.
Public House further endears itself to ballpark denizens with 26 flat-screen TVs, 24 mostly local beers on tap, including three cask ales, and 24 bottled beers, all of which will change seasonally.
To make the decor more casual, Tsuji had the ceilings blown out, expanded the amount of exposed brick on the left-hand wall, and updated to wood tables and chairs, among other things. The larger patio now has heat lamps as well.
On the flip-side, Mijita expands on the related Ferry Building concept with more menu options, a 60-tequila bar (flights coming soon), and sunny patio seating on 3rd Street.
