American Grilled Cheese Kitchen Starts Breakfast Service, Secret Menu

American Grilled Cheese Kitchen began breakfast service today; the popular South Park sandwich spot is now open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The expansion includes a new breakfast-focused menu that includes fruit salad, granola parfait, oatmeal, bread pudding, and muffins alongside four sandwiches served until 11 a.m.: Breakfast Piglet (sharp cheddar, ham, egg, apple mustard), Classic Breakfast (sharp cheddar, jack, egg), Veggie Breakfast (sharp cheddar, jack, egg, roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, bell peppers), and Sunday Brunch (chevre, fig-ginger chutney on pain de mie French toast with brown sugar bourbon sauce on the side). Evening service is still to come.

Meanwhile, AGCK's "Big Cheese" Nate Pollak, who runs the place with "Commander-in-Cheese" Heidi Gibson, tells us they're developing a secret menu.

"Among our regular, loyal customers, there are three phrases that are now common-speak among them when they order our most basic gourmet grilled cheese sandwich, The Mousetrap," he says. "Here's the clues I can give you about these secret menu phrases: One of those phrases will get them the Mousetrap with only bread, butter and cheddar, rather than all three cheeses (cheddar, jack and havarti). One will get them the Mousetrap prepared exactly how it is described on the menu (bread, butter and all three cheeses). This phrase is particularly effective because often people order the Mousetrap and add toppings. The last phrase will get them the Mousetrap prepared with all the fixins (bread, butter, all three cheeses, roasted tomato, apple wood smoked bacon, and sliced bread-n-butter pickles)."

Until we find out more, befriending a regular seems like the best way to figure out a phrase that pays. Our hunch: One of them is probably not "animal style." [EaterWire]
