Chick-fil-A Comes to San Jose

The fast food restaurant is known for its crispy white meat chicken and waffle fries.

Those of you who drive along North 1st Street in San Jose off Highway 237 might have been wondering what was under construction south of the new Target.

Well wonder no more.  It is a Chick-fil-A.

The Chick-fil-A restaurant will open in late July. The address is 53 Headquarters Drive off N. 1st Street.

The company had a dedication ceremony on Monday.  Chick-fil-A is calling the location the first in the Bay Area, but old-timers know that there used to be a Chick-fil-A in the Sunnyvale Town Center shopping center.

The chain announced Monday it will also open a second restaurant in Walnut Creek in the fall.

Apparently this is just the beginning with 3-5 restaurants opening per year here in the Bay Area.

Chick-fil-A knows how to celebrate a grand opening. It gives away a one-year supply of free Chick-fil-A meals  to the first 100 adults in line on opening day. The supply is worth about $350 and is for one meal a week.

In the past, Chick-fil-A fans line up days ahead forming a tent city of sort. They bring air beds, couches, TVs, lap top computers and gaming systems to pass the time.

It was a near frenzy during Southern California openings last year.

San Jose's new restaurant is one of 92 locations the chain plans to open across the country this year, which it says will create nearly 7,000 new jobs
