Pizza Whiz Takes a Stab at Jack London Square

Chef Richard Corbo confirms plan to open new pizzeria

Back in the spring, former rising star chef Richard Corbo was strongly suspected of forsaking his post at Ducca in favor of starting his own pizzeria project in Oakland's Jack London Square, and now it's confirmed.

To be called Pizzeria Zanna Bianca, it's going to follow in the footsteps of the Bay Area's ubiquitous rustic Italian pizzerias/eateries and is currently slated for early 2010.

As for the details, the following amenities/buzzwords are highlighted in the announcement: wood-fired oven, traditional Neopolitan pizza, housemade pastas, market-driven menu, "inspired mixology program," and artisanal housemade salumi.

Now, say what you will about the, well, lack of concept originality here, but Corbo is obviously talented and the fact of the matter is that given the recent acclaim—not to mention runaway popularity—of Adesso and Flour + Water (just to name two recent examples), it still doesn't seem like the market is oversaturated just quite yet. Yet.
