Popular North Beach Tourist Trap Opening a Sequel

House of Nanking will be opening up a second location on the other side of the city.

SoMa: On the stretch of Howard Street adjacent to the Moscone Center, the Chinese restaurant known heretofore only as Fang has been in the works for just about ever.

Now, after nearly two years of stop-and-go progress, it finally looks to be taking shape, and the team behind the project has been revealed to be none other than House of Nanking, the North Beach tourist/guidebook favorite with all kinds of nightly lines.

It'll be interesting to see how Fang plays in SoMa—and how closely it will resemble the controversial House of Nanking—but the affiliation does cast some doubt on those promises of an authentic Chinese kitchen.
