Soma's Top Ten Buildings

The architects convention is in town, and John King is on fire.

Today brings us a list of the top 10 buildings in the district that's "no longer the other side of the tracks." With a nod to the easy truth that SoMa's home to a ton of contemporary design, the list is pretty heavy on new buildings, some which have opened only in the last couple years (or haven't even opened yet). No. 1: the Federal Building on Mission. New and newer: Daniel Libeskind's Contemporary Jewish Museum, Arquitectonica and Heller Manus's Infinity, the soon to open SPUR Urban Center by Pfau Long.

One old building: The Montgomery, which was condo-retrofitted. And our favorite line, as King describes the Pelli Clarke Pelli-designed 560 Mission St: "Yes, glass can have class." Rhymey!
