Banned!: North Beach Boots New Bars

And restaurants. Super Peskin has succeeded in ramming through his North Beach restaurant and bar ban, a piece of work that has been deemed "totalitarian" by some locals. The ban on new alcohol-serving establishments has been festering in the pipeline since January, but was finally voted in yesterday by a vote of 9 to 1. The lone dissenter? Voice from the wilderness Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier, who said that a similar ban on restaurants in her district's Union Street had resulted in vacancies in the onetime hot spot. Will a similar fate befall North Beach? Or will a glorious new age of shoe outlets and hammer stores grace Peskin's home district? Only time will tell.
