Tightening our energy belt some more: The California Public Utilities Commission has just adopted new regulations on housing developments and, eventually, offices. New devs will be required to use so little energy that they'll be almost solely self-sufficient—with solar panels, windmills, and the like. The plan requires that new housing be "zero net energy" by 2020, with the same requirement for commercial construction by 2030. Brace for failwhale... [SF Gate]
