Graffiti Makes People Cry

The broken windows theory comes up so often in these parts that you have to think either San Francisco's getting really good at cracking down on the small stuff, or we just talk about it a lot.

The idea that one broken window begets many has led to stronger and stronger anti-blight regulations on owners. But how are we doing against graffiti?

Not well, says C.W. Nevius, who notes that taggers are making little old ladies cry on a regular basis now. Among one of the hurdles we face in our battle: "there is a school of thought that believes this is art, not a public nuisance." Ribbity might have something to say about that.
