California is set to adopt a change to last year's building code that, if ratified, will allow developers to build four or more stories tall— if they're building science labs and the like, that is. Being writers and not scientists, we have no idea why height is a crucial aspect of bio tech engineering or what have you. Such specialty developers will be happy to know, however, that the code switch should add a 5 to 10-percent premium to their projects.
