Love of Big Brother Spreading Through the Haight

Just how fed are up business owners on San Francisco's Haight Street with crime? They are willing to spend the first $1,000 to bring Big Brother's ever watchful eyes to the busy corridor.

The neighborhood of peace, love and transients has long had problems with "young, aggressive bullies" scarying shoppers and residents away. The City has even considered trying a "sit/lie law," which would ban sitting and lying on the street for hours at a time.

But now Eye on Blogs reports theHaight Ashbury Improvement Association will pay $100 toward security cameras and DVRs for the first 10 business owners to install them in front of their stores.

The hope is to reduce neighborhood crime and bring shoppers and residents out more. That doesn't sound very hippie of the Haight.
