Prop R: All Fun and Games— Until It's On the Ballot

Election Day fast approaches, and with all the hair-pulling over other propositions, one might be excused for forgetting about our little prank/tribute to the president that— formulated over beers— that actually made it onto the Nov. 4 ballot: Prop. R, the ordinance to rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. Heh. Says the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco: "President Bush has left us with a gigantic mess, and ... this facility symbolizes the city’s deft ability to clean up its share of the financial and diplomatic mess left in this administration’s wake." Interesting. But it wasn't but a couple weeks ago when we listened to a local group's recommendation against Prop R, calling it an insult to Oceanside's gleaming, state-of-the-art facilities. San Franciscans, what say you? Juvenile, or as the ballot haiku ends, "how appropriate"?
