Gorgeous & Green On the Fashion Scene

The San Francisco Committee of Global Green USA hosted their fifth annual Gorgeous & Green benefit dinner and fashion show Dec. 8. Held this year at the W Hotel in San Francisco's SoMa district, the event celebrated Global Green's smart climate solutions just as the Copenhagen Climate Conference commenced.

Global Green USA was founded in 1993 and is the American affiliate of President Mikhail Gorbachev's Green Cross International. Their mission is to support projects that address stemming global climate change, specifically through the development of green buildings in cities around the country. Proceeds from the event went to Global Green's initiatives, including works to rebuild New Orleans with zero-energy homes, advancing the Green Schools Initiative in California and New Orleans, and launching a pilot program to recycle Starbucks cups.

Attendees enjoyed organic non-alcoholic fruity Bionade drinks while chatting about all things green. The fast-paced fashion show highlighted eco-friendly designs by the likes of Sara Shepherd, Cari Borja, and Mr. Larkin. Muted colors of browns and grays were favored along with bold plaids. The designs were suited to San Francisco fashionistas - cozy layers with a dash of 40s retro.

There was little jewelry to be seen but what was there was big and chunky and provided by Amber Marie Bentley, Blank Verse, Royal Blush Jewelry, and Litter Jewelry.  Men's organic cotton (and scanty) underwear by PACT was a definite crowd pleaser as were the tunes provided by DJ Donovan.
