National Dog Day Hotel Pick

We're spotlighting Carmel's Cypress Inn, which loves the Lassies

NATIONAL DOG DAY: It's August 26, and while most dog owners would claim that it is National Dog Day every day 'round their homestead, and they'd be right, we wanted to take a moment to give a shout-out to one of the Golden State's most famous take-your-Fido-on-your-getaway stays, the Cypress Inn.

IN CARMEL-BY-THE-SEAEven if you've never been to the Monterey Bay area -- and, c'mon, you have been, or will go soon -- you've seen a Doris Day film. Ms. Day is a co-owner of the Cypress Inn, and a famous longtime advocate of animals. So it is no surprise that her inn is sweet on the four-footed set. Read more about the Cypress Inn's pet policies and get planning; a standard queen at the built-in-1929 hotel is $225.

Carmel is the definition of a pet friendly town where dogs run free on Carmel Beach, and walk on leash throughout the downtown plaza. Many of the restaurant, even the pricey ones, have doggie menu options.
